Using “Fun Facts” to Promote Non-Fiction Reading!

By OneStopTeacherShop

I’m always looking for ways to promote my students to read more Non-Fiction texts.  One fun way I’ve accomplished this in my classroom is by having “Fun Fact Friday!”  Throughout the week, I encourage my students to read Non-Fiction texts (at home and in school) in search of really interesting facts.  Once they find a “Fun Fact”, they submit it to me on this submission form:

On Friday, I randomly choose one “Fun Fact” submission to be highlighted for the day!  I can’t even tell you how much my students LOVE seeing their fun fact displayed.  There have been years where I have done this multiple days a week due to “high demand” from my students.  On the other days, I display a “Fun Fact” of my own choosing for my students to see!  These usually get them curious, and wanting to know more!

Whether you choose to put your own Fun Fact on display, or one from your students, it is sure to get their “wheels” turning!
